The City of Huntsville approved two engineering design contracts for road improvements in Huntsville-annexed Limestone County.
The City approved a design contract with SAIN Associates for the Greenbrier Parkway interchange at Interstate 565 for northbound access improvements that will include upgrades at Greenbrier Parkway and Greenbrier Road about a half-mile north of the interchange.
The contract, to be completed by April 2028, will include a traffic corridor analysis, field surveys and new geometric roadway design.
The project is part of road improvements outlined in the proposed tax increment financing district that includes the interchange. Improvements will facilitate traffic flow for an area that includes Mazda Toyota, Polaris and Amazon as well as the future site of the Eli Lilly and Company campus.
On U.S. 72 West, the City is contracting with Kimley-Horn & Associates for a traffic impact study and intersection improvements on U.S. 72 near East Limestone Road and Holladay Boulevard in accordance with Alabama Department of Transportation permitting requirements.
The study is expected to be completed by July 2027.
