The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) will assist the Alabama A&M University Police Department with traffic control for the university’s annual Homecoming Parade on Saturday, Oct. 17.
Road closures are expected to begin at approximately 7:45 a.m. Meridian Street will be closed between U.S. 72 and Industrial Drive, including side streets and access roads connecting to Meridian Street within the affected area. Drivers should plan for delays and seek alternate routes.
The parade will begin near Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School and travel north on Meridian Street before turning left onto Davis Road and continuing toward Elmore Gym on Alabama A&M University’s campus. Roads will reopen once the parade concludes and the route is cleared.
Officers and barricades will be positioned along the parade route to direct traffic and help protect parade participants and spectators.
HPD encourages motorists to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and avoid the affected area when possible. Those attending the parade should also avoid parking along Memorial Parkway.
