Cast away with Parks and Recreation Youth Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, June 1
Published on May 29, 2019
Huntsville children, ages 6-12 years old, are invited to join Parks & Recreation this Saturday, June 1, in Brahan Spring Park for the annual Wally Vess Youth Fishing Rodeo.
This free fishing event takes place in the Park’s North Lagoon, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. It’s an annual family favorite, so have the kids grab their fishing equipment and bring their chairs and catfish bait for a morning of fun and prizes. The lagoon will be stocked with 500 pounds of catfish, so everyone has a good chance of landing a big one!
Participants must be registered before the 8:30 a.m. start time to be eligible for prizes. Children fish on their own; however, parents may assist in putting bait on the hook and taking the fish off the hook once the child has reeled in the fish.
The Wally Vess Youth Fishing Rodeo started more than 30 years ago as a free community event organized by the City of Huntsville’s Parks & Recreation department.
