Celebrate National Best Friends Day with a new BFF from Huntsville Animal Services

Published on June 3, 2022

As the old saying goes, “A good friend knows all your best stories, but a best friend has lived them with you.” Fortunately, finding a loyal and enthusiastic best friend is as easy as visiting Huntsville Animal Services (HAS).

June 8 is National Best Friends Day and HAS is celebrating with $10 adoption fees for most dogs through June 12. The number of dogs at the shelter has swelled and HAS hopes the affordable price might entice those who are considering adopting a shelter dog.

“Our dogs are fully vetted before becoming available for adoption,” HAS Director Dr. Karen Sheppard said. “Each dog is spayed or neutered, gets all age-appropriate vaccinations, receives flea and heartworm preventatives, and is microchipped.”

Adopted dogs also receive a City license and free bag of pet food.

Sheppard said the preventative care adds up, but the value of the services is most obvious when HAS connects a healthy dog to loving humans in a “furever” home.

“We’re in the business of connecting best friends,” she said. “Nothing beats that feeling of giving a lonely dog a second chance.”

Located at 4950 Triana Blvd. in Huntsville, HAS is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
