City Council approves rezoning of Harris Farms for planned housing development

The Huntsville City Council approved the rezoning for the Harris Farms development in north Huntsville, clearing the way for developers to move forward with design plans.
Preliminary plans call for approximately 1,800 housing units to be built on 505 acres that is on the north side of State Route 255 just west of Memorial Parkway and near the under-construction North Village retail development. The private development will include diverse housing options and extensive amenities that shall include a resort style pool, pickleball courts, dog parks, and greenways.
The City also introduced plans to annex 536.8 acres east of U.S. 72 East and north and south of Little Cove Road. Developers are planning a housing development in the McMullen Cove area. The annexation will be considered at the Aug. 13 Council meeting.
