City of Huntsville, EMA monitoring effects of pipeline shutdown

Published on May 12, 2021

The City of Huntsville and Huntsville-Madison County Emergency Management Agency are closely monitoring an ongoing situation created by a temporary shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline.

Company officials announced the pipeline would restart Wednesday evening, but explained it could take “several days” for the supply chain to return to normal levels.

The City is working with Huntsville Utilities, area hospitals, schools and public safety agencies. Officials with the City and EMA suggest residents practice fuel conservation measures until the pipeline is operational.

Officials with Dutch Oil, which delivers fuel to North Alabama, have informed they have enough fuel to supply in the near-term.

We will provide updates about this fluid situation as needed.
