The City of Huntsville is giving students a little extra time to apply for the 2026-2027 Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC). The application deadline has been extended to Friday, May 1, at 10 p.m.
MYAC is a yearlong leadership and civic engagement program open to rising high school freshmen through seniors who live and attend school within Huntsville city limits.
Participants gain hands‑on experience with City operations, collaborate with civic leaders and help elevate youth perspectives in municipal decision‑making.
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Submit a completed application
- Include at least one letter of recommendation
- Provide an official or unofficial transcript verifying cumulative GPA
- Obtain parent/guardian consent if under age 18
Multicultural Affairs Director Dr. Randy Barbour, Jr. encourages students to take advantage of the extended deadline.
“This program empowers young people to learn how their city works and to meaningfully shape the community around them,” Barbour said. “We hope this additional time allows even more students to apply.”
