Downtown Huntsville to Relaunch Bike Share Program
Published on September 8, 2020
The Downtown Huntsville bike share program relaunched with its new partner, Tandem Mobility, on September 8.
“We are excited to bring back bikeshare to Downtown Huntsville,” said Downtown Huntsville Inc. President and CEO, Chad Emerson. “Our city center is an amazing destination to explore on two wheels and this new partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama and the City of Huntsville will allow locals and guests to do just that.”
“Sponsoring Downtown Blue Bikes is a perfect opportunity to help improve the health and wellness of Alabamians,” said Tim Vines, President and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. “Huntsville’s bike share program encourages healthy lifestyles and economic growth benefitting downtown businesses, residents and tourists.”
There will be 30 bikes, across 11 stations in the downtown area. These stations include Big Spring East, Big Spring West, Butler Green, Five Points, Jefferson/Holmes, Lumberyard, Roundhouse, Twickenham Square, Visitor’s Center, Washington/Clinton and Westside Square. Riders will pay a simple $2 per 30 minutes of riding.
“Bike sharing services have been highly popular with our residents and visitors and we are delighted this program will continue in the downtown area,” said Tommy Battle, Mayor of Huntsville. “Cycling allows users to experience Huntsville in a unique way and it provides another mode of transportation that is clean and energy friendly. It also fits well in our Healthy Huntsville initiative to encourage daily forms of exercise. Our thanks to Tandem Mobility and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama for improving our quality of life by offering new bike share opportunities.”
Tandem Mobility was born out of a desire to help develop and manage complete mobility solutions with community partners. They focus on aligning people, tech, and data around communities’ goals, not the other way around. By partnering with premium providers in the industry they are able to deliver a turnkey solution that allows cities to focus on improving mobility programming while they seamlessly execute the details.
This system will go live on September 8th for riding. Sign up via the Movatic app found in the App or Google Play store by searching for “Huntsville”.
