February 2021 – Development Review

More industrial projects topped the list of non-residential permits issued in February. Three new apartment projects started last month, causing a substantial increase in housing starts year-over-year.


Residential Permits (new construction) in Huntsville city limits:

In February, 875 housing units were permitted, 95 single- and 780 multi-family. The top tract for building permits last month was 106.27 (Providence) where 361 units were permitted – 1 single- and 360 multi-family. This is a 424% increase over February 2020 when 167 housing units (127 single- and 40 multi-family) were permitted.

Residential Certificates of Occupancy (new construction) in Huntsville city limits:

176 housing units were granted certificates of occupancy (COs), 92 single- and 84 multi-family. The top tract for COs in the month of February was 14.03 (Research Park West), where 48 housing units were added, all multi-family. This is a 112% increase from February 2020 when 83 housing units (all single-family) were granted COs.
