HPD Enforces Underage Alcohol Sales

Huntsville Police conducted a detail yesterday enforcing the violation of the sale of alcohol to those under twenty-one years of age. Our Community Relations Officers and a decoy under the age of twenty-one was used during this detail. A total of 13 individuals at 13 different locations were cited for violating State Code §28-3A-25(a)(3); selling alcohol to the underage decoy. The violators signed arrest citations to appear in municipal court at a future date. There were a total of 21 locations visited. The individuals cited that sold the alcohol were a combination of employees and/or business owners.

HPD will be conducting more of these details across the city in the future. Business owners are encouraged to ensure that they and their employees are diligently checking everyone’s identification when alcohol is presented for purchase. Violating this offense is a misdemeanor with approximately a $500 fine. Future violations can cause the suspension of a business’s liquor license by the City of Huntsville.
