HPD Prescription Drug Drop Box

Published on October 9, 2018

Just over two years ago, Huntsville Police introduced a prescription drug take back program by installing a medication drop box in the lobby of the Public Safety Complex at 815 Wheeler Ave. We wanted to give an update on it’s progress. It has taken in just over  3,100 lbs of prescription drugs since it was installed in 2016 (Just over 450 lbs for this past reporting quarter). This is the highest weight in one quarter since the program began in 2016. That’s 3,100 lbs  of prescription drugs that won’t find their way into the wrong hands or our water system.

If you have unwanted or expired prescription drugs that need to be discarded, this location remains available 24/7. We also want to remind everyone of the National DEA Drug Take Back day October 27th from 9am -1pm. HPD will be available at the parking lot across from 815 Wheeler Ave to take any prescription drugs or medications with no questions asked.

Attached Photo is from the Take Back day this past April. CRO Officer Hollingsworth received unwanted medications from motorists as they pull up to 815 Wheeler Ave.
