The City of Huntsville entered into a funding agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation for the first phase of Resolute Way, a critical piece of roadway infrastructure for Redstone Arsenal.
In partnership with Redstone Arsenal, modifications to the Interstate 565 Exit 13 ramp westbound at Madison Boulevard will provide direct access to the arsenal’s main entrance at Gate 9. The project will further enhance traffic flow by alleviating congestion at the I-565 and Research Park Boulevard interchange.
“Resolute Way is one of our top roadway priorities and we are excited to see this project moving forward,” Mayor Tommy Battle said. “With the expanding missions at Redstone Arsenal, including U.S. Space Command and the FBI, it’s essential that the City rises to the occasion in support to help keep our nation safe. We are grateful for our partnership with the Alabama Department of Transportation and look forward to continuing to partner on many other projects in the region.”
The project includes an additional 1-mile of weave/merge distance along Interstate 565 eastbound from Madison Boulevard to SR-255/Research Boulevard to improve safety along this congested corridor that sees more than 140,000 vehicles per day.
The funding agreement provides $11.5 million for the project, which includes $2.3 million from the City with the remaining funds coming from the Huntsville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization for regionally significant projects in the area.
