The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) promoted six officers to the rank of sergeant and three sergeants to the rank of lieutenant on Friday, July 23.

During a special ceremony at the Huntsville Police Academy, Officers Gerald Gambino, Dequan Hyter, Dave Mullins, Scott Trew, Jason Vanderbrink and Rosalind White were promoted to the rank of sergeant. Sgts. Tim Clardy Jr., Shondon Warren and Scott Widner were promoted to the rank of lieutenant.

The new sergeants and lieutenants will serve as supervisors in three precincts across town helping lead patrol officers on all three shifts.

“This highly educated and well-trained group of officers have worked in areas across the department,” said Chief Mark McMurray. “Their diverse skill set will help us continue our community policing efforts by providing professional service to our city.”

HPD has more than 700 sworn and civilian personnel who work to keep the community safe. The sergeants and lieutenants will work with the command staff to perform more efficiently and increase both accountability and collaboration of resources.
