Huntsville Police, Huntsville Fire & Rescue team up for Heroes on the Block Community Party
Published on May 7, 2025

Huntsville’s Public Safety community is uniting to elevate a popular event to new heights with the objective of growing engagement with residents.
The Heroes on the Block Party is a free, fun-filled community event sponsored by the Huntsville Police Department (HPD) and Huntsville Fire & Rescue (HFR) on Saturday, May 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dr. Robert Shurney Legacy Center, 3011 Sparkman Drive.
“We’ve been hosting block parties at the North Precinct for several years now and we’ve seen how events like this help build strong relationships between officers and the community,” HPD Capt. Tony McElyea said. “Now, with HFR joining in, we’re excited to offer an even bigger and better experience. It’s a great way to serve Huntsville residents in an enjoyable setting, and not just during difficult times. Make plans to attend and we’ll take care of the rest.”
The block party will include free food, inflatables, games, local vendors and giveaways as well as a petting zoo and live music. In addition, HPD officers and HFR firefighters will provide public safety displays and share more information about their departments. Children and adults alike can explore HPD vehicles, including a SWAT truck, and try on HFR turnout gear while getting an up-close look at an engine truck.
“This is going to be a great event, and we are pumped to be working with HPD,” HFR Capt. Cory Green said. “It’s our job to be ready when Huntsville residents need us in an emergency, but we don’t want those experiences to be the extent of our community engagement. We’re looking forward to the Heroes on the Block Party to bring some fun to the community we serve.”
