Huntsville Police Looking to Take Part in IRS Financial Crimes Task Force

Published on August 8, 2017

The Huntsville Police Department, along with other law enforcement agencies across the state, are working to form a Financial Crimes Task Force with the Internal Revenue Service. The Task Force will work in coordination with the United States Attorney’s Office(s) to determine the types of activities that merit investigation and prosecution.

The objective of the Task Force will be to develop and assist with criminal investigations involving all levels of financial crimes.  Other departments looking to take part in the Task Force are Athens Police, Birmingham Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The Huntsville Police Department currently has an investigator assigned to the FBI’s Cybercrimes Unit as well as officers assigned to the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force and the US Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.  “Through these Federal partnerships we are able to improve our investigative abilities which in turn make us a more effective and efficient department”, said Chief Mark McMurray.
