Huntsville Ranked #1 in Top 10 “Best Affordable Places to Live” by Livability.com

Livability released its 2016 list of “Best Affordable Places to Live” in America and Huntsville ranked #1. The company says its annual ranking of the best affordable cities includes not just cheap places to live, but also communities with high standards of living and low housing costs.
“We have all the essential ingredients to make Huntsville one of the most desirable places to live,” said Mayor Tommy Battle. “Beyond our low cost of living, we have a smart workforce with good paying jobs, abundant recreation options, a thriving arts and culture community, excellent health care, and a good transportation network. At the end of the day, our citizens are more likely to have extra money to spend on things they would like to do, and they have something even more precious – the gift of time to enjoy their friends, families and favorite activities.”
According to Livability, the annual listing is not based on the least expensive places to live in America. “There are places where you can buy a home for pocket change, and whole towns that cost less than a home in Palo Alto, Calif. But if you ask the question “Would you want to live there?”, the answer is likely ‘No.’ Instead, this is a list of affordable cities you’d actually want to live in,” said Livability editors.
Other factors Livability considers in its annual “Top 10 Best Affordable Places to Live” include earnings potential, income equality, consumer spending, entertainment options, cost of housing, transportation, food and utilities.
