Huntsville residents to experience garbage collection delays

Published on January 23, 2024

In the aftermath of last week’s prolonged winter weather event, Huntsville Public Works is working to get caught up on garbage collection. Homes at higher elevations could experience delays into later this week as crews work Friday and Saturday to collect routes missed due to icy roads.

This week only, residents may place overflow bags next to their garbage cans for collection. Bags should weigh less than 50 pounds.

Huntsville Public Works Director Chris McNeese said his department is committed to restoring service promptly and appreciates the community’s cooperation during this period of extended delays.

“We apologize for the inconvenience, and we ask for continued patience as we work through these challenges,” he said. “We ask residents to leave their cans at the curb, and we will collect them as soon as possible.”
