The Huntsville Police Department(HPD) is advising residents to prepare for heavy traffic in downtown Huntsville on Friday, May 22, due to several large events taking place near the Von Braun Center (VBC).
Traffic is expected to increase significantly beginning around 4:30 p.m. as attendees leave a large conference at the VBC while Huntsville High School graduation traffic arrives during the afternoon commute.
Drivers should expect delays near the following roads:
- Clinton Avenue
- Monroe Street
- Church Street
- Surrounding VBC parking garages and lots
Additional pedestrian traffic is also expected throughout the downtown area.
Drivers are encouraged to consider alternate routes, avoid the area if possible during peak travel times and allow extra time to reach their destinations. Drivers are reminded to remain alert, watch for pedestrians and follow directions from officers directing traffic.
HPD officers and City Parking Services employees will be in the area to assist with traffic control and help keep vehicles moving as safely and efficiently as possible.
