Mayor Battle Statement on Medal of Honor Recipient Mike Rose

Published on October 23, 2017

Huntsville resident Gary Michael Rose, a retired Army Captain and Green Beret, received the Medal of Honor from President Donald Trump today for his actions during a highly secretive mission into Laos during the Vietnam War. Rose was a Special Forces medic who is credited with saving dozens of lives, while being wounded himself, during the four-day mission.

“Mike’s story is one of courage, integrity, and selflessness, and we could not be more honored to have this exemplary patriot living in Huntsville,” said Mayor Tommy Battle. “I am proud of our country for recognizing his service, and we look forward to welcoming Mike back home from the White House with a ceremony in his honor.”

The Medal of Honor is the nation’s highest military award for valor.
