Mayor Tommy Battle issued a statement on Madison County Chair Mac McCutcheon’s announcement he will retire on March 1.

“Today’s announcement marks the close of an extraordinary career of service by Mac McCutcheon, and I want to personally thank him for his many years of leadership, integrity, and friendship,” said Mayor Battle. “Mac has been an outstanding partner and a driving force behind our community’s success – from his early days in law enforcement to his roles as a civic leader, Speaker of the House in Montgomery, and most recently, Chairman of the Madison County Commission. In every position, he served with character, humility and a genuine commitment to the people he represented.

“Mac understands that good government is built on collaboration, not conflict. Time and again, he worked across jurisdictions and perspectives to do what was best for our community, always focused on results and grounded in respect. Huntsville and Madison County are stronger because of his vision, his partnership and his willingness to listen.

“On behalf of the City of Huntsville, I congratulate Mac on a remarkable legacy of service and wish him and his family all the very best in the next chapter ahead.”
