Mexico-to-Huntsville drug trafficking operation dismantled; more than 28 pounds of cocaine seized

A major drug trafficking organization transporting cocaine directly from Mexico into the Huntsville and Madison County area has been dismantled following a joint operation by the North Alabama Drug Task Force (NADTF) and Region F of the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force (ADETF).
During the operation, agents seized more than 28 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $1,275,300.
On Thursday, July 9, following a lengthy investigation, agents conducted a coordinated enforcement operation in the 4500 block of Research Park Boulevard. The suspects were traveling in two vehicles when agents safely took four individuals into custody.
“Every investigation we conduct is about keeping dangerous drugs out of our communities and holding those responsible accountable for bringing them here,” NADTF Commander Lt. Joseph Kennington said. “Our agents, along with our law enforcement partners, will continue working to identify and dismantle drug trafficking organizations that threaten the safety of North Alabama.”
The following individuals were arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine:
- Cruz Soto, 47, of Matamoros, Mexico
- Juan Lopez, 26, of San Benito, Texas
- Rafael Lopez, 36, of Houston, Texas
- Jose Cisneros, 24, of Brownsville, Texas
Each is being held on a $1.5 million bond.
During the operation, agents seized more than 28 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $1,275,300. Investigators also recovered approximately $7,450 in cash, two vehicles and two trailers believed to have been used in the trafficking operation.
