New Madison County policy changes regard stray animal intake

Published on October 14, 2025

For decades, Huntsville Animal Services (HAS) has been proud to work closely with Madison County Animal Control to care for stray and homeless pets throughout Madison County. In fact, 35-40% of Huntsville Animal Services’ annual intake have come from Madison County—outside Huntsville City Limits—and HAS values the long-standing partnership that has supported those animals.

Recently, Madison County Animal Control made some administrative policy changes that require their citizens to first contact Madison County Animal Control regarding any stray pets found. This new Madison County policy is now in effect.

For Madison County residents from outside Huntsville, you must first contact Madison County Animal Control at 256-532-1519, or at their facility located at 3210 NE S HI-LO Cir D—this includes Trap, Neuter and Release (TNR) program cats.

Huntsville Animal Services is proud to work alongside our friends at Madison County Animal Control and will continue to work in partnership with them to help stray animals as we have done for decades.
