Single Dogs Seek Fur-ever Love: Huntsville Animal Services hosts Valentine’s Day lovefest

Published on February 7, 2022

Huntsville Animal Services (HAS) is inviting the public to find love with a furry companion as part of a weeklong celebration, I (heart) HAS.

Each day, an adoptable animal in need of a loving home will be featured on the HAS Facebook page with its own personal ad. The weeklong lovefest for homeless pets will culminate with open house events Feb. 11-12, and again on Valentine’s Day, Monday, Feb. 14.

Members of the community can visit the shelter and go on speed dates with their potential mates. To sweeten the deal, HAS will provide Valentine’s treat bags for two-legged guests and four-legged friends while supplies last.

“I (heart) HAS is a great way for the community to show love for not only our animals, but also the shelter staff and volunteers who work so hard to find them homes,” HAS Director Dr. Karen Sheppard said. “It doesn’t matter whether you’re in a relationship or single this Valentine’s Day, these animals have a lot of love to give, and would love to have some love in return.”

As part of the promotion, HAS is slashing its adoption fees to $35 for most animals, though some exclusions apply. For those who can’t adopt right now, HAS also offers a foster program as well as sleepovers.

Each adoptable pet is vaccinated, spayed/neutered, microchipped and comes with a City license and free bag of pet food. Click here to see photos, ages and descriptions of available animals.

Located at 4950 Triana Blvd, the shelter is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
