Available in the App Store for iPhone and Google Play for Android devices, Token Transit allows Orbit and Access riders to purchase fares and board a bus by showing the driver a pass on their phone.

Mayor Tommy Battle and Parking and Public Transit Director Quisha Bryant announced the launch of Token Transit at a March 30 event. The app went live in February as part of a soft launch.

Mayor Battle said the app mirrors the City’s efforts to modernize its public transit offerings and accommodate a growing population. Those efforts will culminate in the construction of a new transfer station within the next two years.

“All these improvements reflect our commitment to providing the best service possible to our citizens,” Mayor Battle said. “We hope you’ll download the app and take a ride with us.”

Bryant said since the soft launch, dozens of Huntsville Transit patrons have downloaded the app. She added Token Transit can help grow the City’s public transit system because bulk fare packages are available for schools, universities and larger employers who need reliable transportation for students and employees.

“This represents a great opportunity for us to work closely with our community partners to not only strengthen our existing public transit efforts, but also map out our future,” she said. “We are actively assessing routes and how the public uses our services, and Token Transit is an important part of those conversations.”
