Three juveniles charged in Powell Drive homicide

The Huntsville Police Department’s (HPD) Major Crimes Unit has charged three juveniles in connection with a homicide that occurred on Feb. 19 in the 5000 block of Powell Drive.
Officers responded to the area around 4:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 17-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Lifesaving measures were performed at the scene before the teen was transported to a local hospital, where the teen later died from their injuries.
During the early stages of the investigation, three individuals who were located in the area were briefly detained and later released while investigators continued processing evidence and pursuing additional leads. As the investigation progressed, a combination of traditional investigative techniques and digital forensic analysis helped investigators identify three suspects believed to be responsible for the shooting.
Investigators presented the case to the Madison County District Attorney’s Office, and charges were subsequently brought against three juveniles, ages 17, 17 and 15.
“Our Major Crimes Unit remained committed to this case from the very beginning, continuing to follow the evidence and work closely with our Crime Scene and Digital Forensics teams to determine exactly what happened,” HPD Chief Kirk Giles said. “While these charges cannot lessen the pain of losing a child, we hope they provide the victim’s family and loved ones with some measure of accountability as the case moves forward with the Madison County District Attorney’s Office.”
Because all three suspects are juveniles, their names and additional details about the investigation will not be released.
