One of the best parts of summer is an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables and other goodies that can be found at our local farmers’ markets. We are fortunate to have two very popular markets right in South Huntsville.

The Latham Farmers Market has become a gathering place for the South Huntsville community every Tuesday afternoon from 3 – 6 p.m.  The Market is located at Latham United Methodist Church 109 Weatherly Road right next to the railroad tracks. This is the 7th year of the Latham Farmers Market, and it is the only State Certified Market in Huntsville.

This year’s Market has grown to twelve produce farmers, two meat farmers & a cheese farmer.  You will also find four bakers as well as coffee and tea vendors. There are also treats like homemade popsicles & popcorn.  You can even pick up a prepared meal on your way home from work to take home for your family. Tuesday, July 30, will be the annual Tomato Festival at the Market.  The festival always brings a crowd for special games, contest with prizes & judging of locally grown tomatoes.

Bailey Cove Farmer’s Market at St. Thomas opens every June and runs through September on Saturday mornings each week from 8 a.m. until Noon at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, located at 12200 Bailey Cove Road. The market provides an opportunity for area growers and provides to sell fresh, nutritious, and high-quality produce and other product directly to buyers. It also reflects St. Thomas’ ongoing commitment, as part of the loaves & Fishes project, to the Stewardship of Creation, hospitality, mission, and pastoral care in our community.

This community market features twenty-eight farmers/vendors with an emphasis on vegetables and fruits. Specialty items like honey, jellies, sweets, and homemade dog biscuits can also be found. It is a great place to meet friends and neighbors on Saturday mornings while running errands or coming home from the gym.

These markets are just one more way to celebrate summer in South Huntsville!
