Published on October 2, 2025

The Huntsville Police Department (HPD), in partnership with the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division (Army CID), continues to investigate the 2013 homicide of Lieutenant Colonel Alonzo McGhee, with Army CID offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.

On Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, around 10:30 p.m., HPD officers found Lt. Col. McGhee suffering from gunshot wounds in a driveway in the 7000 block of Pale Dawn Place. He later died from his injuries.

Since that time, HPD’s Major Crimes Unit and Army CID have jointly investigated the case. Despite extensive efforts, including interviews, evidence reviews and leads followed over the years, the case remains unsolved.

“Our investigators are pursuing every lead possible,” HPD Chief Kirk Giles said. “Even the smallest piece of information could help us make progress, and we urge the public to come forward.”

Anyone with credible information concerning this incident are encouraged to contact Army CID’s Redstone Resident Unit at 706-577-6883, email or they can submit an anonymous tip online.
