City approves $240 million retail and restaurant development in north Huntsville

Published on November 6, 2025

The City of Huntsville approved a significant new project that will deliver more than 500,000 square feet of new retail and restaurants in north Huntsville. The transformational $240 million development project will bring extraordinary investment to the intersection of State Route 255 and Memorial Parkway (U.S. 231/431).

The development will be located across Memorial Parkway from the new full-service Food City grocery store that opened in July.

The development will be at the intersection of Memorial Parkway and Northern Bypass.

Initial retail anchors will be Target and Home Depot. The development will be constructed on the west side of Memorial Parkway at the Northern Bypass intersection.

“This is a project that has been years in the making and meets a need for residents in north Huntsville,” Mayor Tommy Battle said. “Residents from outside of Huntsville, including southern Tennessee, will also benefit from this development. The development of this retail center is a result of our success in bringing in new jobs, infrastructure investments and several new residential communities to District 1. Today, we were able to announce a massive retail development that north Huntsville deserves.”

The development will be known as North Village Town Center, providing a best-in-class lifestyle center. While not all retailers have been announced, the development will include multiple national retailers, local and regional retail space as well as multiple national and regional restaurants.

“This project is a tremendous win for District 1 as well as all of Huntsville,” District 1 Council Member Michelle Watkins said. “I am excited about this new development and I want to thank the administration and my Council colleagues for their support. It’s a new day in Huntsville and I can’t wait until the groundbreaking.”

Retailers will include department stores, home improvement, grocery, health & fitness centers, restaurants, small shops and more.

An Express Oil Change location will also be part of the development and be built on the east side of Memorial Parkway in front of Food City.

The first phase of construction is expected to begin in spring 2026 with initial store openings following in 2027. Phase II will be a retail development on the north side of Northern Bypass at Memorial Parkway.
