City Council certifies Aug. 25 municipal election results, declares runoff in District 3 City Council race

The City Council certified the results of the Aug. 25 municipal election, declaring winners in two City Council and Huntsville City Schools Board of Education races and setting a runoff election in the District 3 Council race.

Jennie Robinson received 47.91% of the vote in the District 3 City Council race, followed by Liliana Peinder with 30.66% and John Stuart with 21.43%. Because no candidate received more than 50% of the vote, Robinson and Peinder will compete in the runoff election Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Winners in the City Council races were David Little in District 2 and Bill Kling in District 4. In the school board races, Holly McCarty won in District 2 and Payten Redfearn won in District 3. Ryan Renaud was unopposed in District 4 school board election and the Council declared him the winner in July.

The deadline to register to vote in the runoff is Monday, Sept. 7. Other key voting deadlines for the runoff:

  • Sept. 15 at 5 p.m.: Last day for a voter to apply by mail for absentee ballot.
  • Sept. 17 at 5 p.m.: Last day to apply in person for absentee ballot.
  • Sept. 21 at 5 p.m.: Last day for a voter to apply for an emergency absentee ballot or to hand-deliver a non-emergency absentee ballot.
  • Sept. 21: Last day absentee ballots can be postmarked.
  • Sept. 22 at noon: Deadline for absentee ballots to be received to be counted and to return an emergency absentee ballot.
