A note about the American Flag Patriotism Project from Council Member Robinson

The South Huntsville Optimist Club initiated their “American Flag Patriotism Project” in 2016 and began providing a service to display flags in South Huntsville yards. This year, they have added Hampton Cove Subdivision and proudly display over 300 flags.

The organization purchases the materials, assembles the flag on a 10 ft. pole, and more. They store the flags, then deliver and place them in residents’ yards for the Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July and Veterans Day holidays. This project helps our neighborhoods show their patriotism as flags spring up in front of nearly every house!

This is a fundraiser and they charge an annual fee for services. Proceeds are used for projects including to provide monetary scholarships and awards to youth participating in the annual Optimist Oratorical Contest and to deserving graduating high school seniors who are active in leadership and service roles in their communities.
