Animal Services Reports Record 92% Live Release Rate for May

Published on May 28, 2015

Animal Services is pleased to report a record live release rate for month of May. The Empty the Shelter – Fill your Heart challenge resulted in a 92 percent live release rate from May 1 to May 28. That’s 437 pet adoptions!

“The high adoption number is an incredible accomplishment for our community, but even with this good news, we just received 95 dogs and 48 cats that also need a loving home,” said Animal Services Director Karen Sheppard. “I invite the public to come in and help us boost that rate even higher in the last few days of the month.”

The “Empty the Shelter” challenge hosted adoption events at PetSmart, extended hours and special adoption rates at the shelter, and increased its pet counseling with current pet owners.

“It is an ongoing effort to work with citizens to keep their pets and to reconnect strays with their owners,” said Sheppard.
