Council Member Jennie Robinson, business representatives, and the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) gathered today to officially celebrate the opening of Benaroya Lane at Martin Road- a key connector road in the South Parkway Overpass “Restore Our Roads” initiative.

Benaroya Lane now connects Martin Road to Byrd Spring Road, and is an important entrance for Redstone Arsenal employees into Main Street South, Office Park South, and the hotels, restaurants and businesses in the surrounding area. It is a vital connector to businesses during the ongoing South Parkway construction and will also provide easy access to those areas once construction is complete.

Work on Benaroya Lane began on August 29, 2016 and was completed on October 7, 2016. The project was completed in 39 calendar days. The design was performed by 4Site Inc. with construction by Reed Contracting Services, Inc.

The project’s scope includes construction of approximately 260 linear feet of a new three lane road with curb and gutter to include utility relocation, storm drainage improvements, demolition, irrigation and landscaping to restore adjacent property.

The City of Huntsville would like to give special acknowledgement and thanks to the property owners on each side of the new road – Huntsville Hotel Company, LLC president Srinath Yedla and Scott Averbuch for dedication of right-of-way and easements needed for the new road connection. Also special thanks to ALDOT, North Region for expediting coordination for the release of the denied access roadway portion along Martin Road to make the Benaroya Lane connection possible.
