Slightly warmer temperatures will cause a partial thaw on Thursday, but another blast of arctic air will bring a potential refreeze of precipitation on roadways. To that end, Madison County Commission Chair Mac McCutcheon, Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle and Madison Mayor Paul Finley will close government operations through Thursday, Jan. 18. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the area through 6 a.m. Tuesday. Continued sleet and snow, along with below-freezing temperatures, are causing icy road conditions. City of Huntsville municipal offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 15, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This includes Animal Services, Parks & Recreation, Public Transit and Municipal Court. Residential curbside collection will be delayed by one day the week of Jan. 15-19. Residents should leave carts at the curb until they are collected. Essential police and fire personnel will remain on duty throughout the holiday.
