City Council approves Live911 technology to enhance emergency response

The City Council has approved a resolution that would allow the City to enter into an agreement with HigherGround Inc. to implement Live911 technology designed to improve emergency response and give the Huntsville Police Department (HPD) faster access to critical information during 911 calls.
HigherGround develops software that captures, stores and retrieves telecommunications and radio communications in real time. The system will provide quick access to call recordings.
Live911 will allow the North Alabama Multi-Agency Crime Center (NAMACC) to securely monitor critical 911 calls as they occur. Calls will be replicated through a secure server on the 911 center’s network and transmitted through a protected web portal.
With Live911, the NAMACC team can begin monitoring calls immediately and, when appropriate, direct resources such as cameras or drones to a scene within 30 seconds to two minutes.
The City plans to install the software and complete training within 30 to 60 days, with the system expected to become operational shortly afterward.
The investment reflects HPD’s continued effort to leverage technology to improve public safety, support first responders and deliver better service to residents.
