City of Huntsville temporarily closing cross-country, disc golf courses at John Hunt Park

The cross-country and disc golf courses at John Hunt Park are temporarily closed to the public, effective immediately.

Sprigs are being planted in extensive areas of the course that were affected by the harsh winter temperatures. New sod will also be installed in the start/finish line area.

The sprigs and sod will be watered frequently, and foot traffic on the affected areas must be kept to a minimum. This closure does not affect the public’s use of the walking path.

“We have made the determination that temporarily closing the course is our best approach to ensuring that these areas are ready for our upcoming fall events,” said Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett. “At this time, we anticipate the course being closed until our first race in September.”
