Council Member John Meredith co-sponsored a resolution, along with Council Member Jennie Robinson, recognizing the unwavering efforts of the City’s first responders and Fleet Services employees during the historic January ice storm. The City’s Police and Fire & Rescue departments served Huntsville residents in unconventional ways, such as helping stranded motorists, transporting patients to dialysis appointments as well as taking home discharged hospital patients who otherwise had no way to get there because of the icy roads.

“We are grateful and proud of each first responder and fleet services employee because of their demonstrated ability to act quickly and decisively in times of need,” the resolution said in part. “They proved themselves during an unpredictable winter situation, just as they do on a daily basis. Their efforts navigated a path through a tumultuous time in the safest, most efficient way possible.”

First responders and Fleet Services employees will receive copies of the resolution.
