Green Team Volunteer Spotlight: Caring for the planet starts at home

Published on October 20, 2025

For Jenna Rosano and members of Citizens’ Climate Huntsville (CCH), their passion for caring for the planet starts right here at home. While the organization focuses much of its work on environmental policy at the federal level, Jenna said many members wanted a way to make a tangible difference in their own community.

Nine friendly faces, a mix of men and women, wearing bright green volunteer vests before heading out to pick up trash in the City of HuntsvilleJenna and CCH now maintain Executive Drive and Rick Cooper Memorial Park. Their efforts have drawn support from other local organizations and community members eager to lend a hand.

“We’re lucky to be surrounded by beautiful green spaces,” she said. “Some of my fondest memories have been hiking in Monte Sano or exploring Land Trust properties. As Huntsville continues to grow, it’s important that we maintain cleanliness and accessibility so everyone can enjoy these spaces.”

When asked what advice she’d give to others who want to get involved, her answer was simple: start small but start somewhere. Dedicating one or two hours each month can make a real difference, Jenna said. Look for opportunities on social media or join a cleanup event – it’s easier and more fun when you do it with others.

Jenna believes civic engagement is key to building stronger, more connected communities. “If you don’t know about the cleanups happening in your area, it can feel daunting to start alone,” she said. “But when you show up alongside others who care, it’s inspiring. We build community while taking care of our shared environment.”
