Mayor Tommy Battle and Huntsville-area leaders proclaimed Nov. 5-11 as Veterans Week in Madison County.
The proclamation, also signed by Madison County Commission Chair Mac McCutcheon and Madison Mayor Ranae Bartlett, expresses the communities’ “undying support and gratitude to all our veterans who have honorably served in defense of our great nation and the cause of freedom around the world in times of peace and conflict.”
Mayors Battle and Bartlett and Chair McCutcheon signed the proclamation at a ceremony at the Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial in downtown Huntsville.
Festivities during Veterans Week include the Hall of Heroes Dinner on Monday at the Von Braun Center, the Veterans Breakfast at The Roundhouse across Jefferson Street from the Veterans Memorial and the annual Veterans Day parade in Huntsville.
“Honoring our veterans is a joy and a privilege,” Mayor Battle said. “While a simple thank-you does not seem like enough, it is a great honor to celebrate the sacrifice and devotion to country that our veterans have demonstrated for decades. Huntsville is a proud military city, and we want everyone to share their appreciation for our veterans.”
