The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) is investigating an incident that left a student injured Wednesday, Sept. 30, during a culinary class at the Huntsville City Schools Technical School.
Just before 11:30 a.m., officers responded to the 2600 block of Memorial Parkway after receiving a report that a student had been injured. Officers located the student with an injury involving a knife. The student sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The injury was initially reported as accidental. However, as officers and Huntsville City Schools officials continued their investigation, evidence indicated another student was involved.
A 16-year-old student was transported to the HPD’s Criminal Investigations Division, where members of the Violent Crimes Unit conducted an interview.
Following the investigation, the 16-year-old was arrested and charged with second-degree assault.
