HPD Citizen’s Academy

Published on March 1, 2018

Huntsville Police are accepting applications for the 8th Citizen’s Academy today, March 1st, through March 31st. The projected start date of the Academy is April 10th, 2018. The Citizen’s Police Academy is a 9-week program offered each spring and fall giving our community members first-hand information on the role of police officers in the Huntsville Police Department. The students meet one day a week from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The program involves both classroom and interactive instruction. The Academy gives citizens first-hand information on how and why the Department operates. It also examines the culture of police work and the HPD organization. This is an excellent opportunity for the citizens to interact with members of HPD. The Citizens Police Academy is NOT an offer of employment, but a volunteer program to educate those respected members of our community who want to hear information on law enforcement and  in particular the Huntsville Police Department.

The application process can be located at the link on the City’s website https://www.huntsvilleal.gov/residents/public-safety/huntsville-police/community-resources/citizens-police-academy/. Fill out the application, scan and email to academy@hunntsvilleal.gov. We are working on getting the application where it can be submitted electronically from the website. If you have questions you can call the Academy at 256-746-4409.
