HPD continues participation in statewide drug task force

The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) will continue its partnership with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) supporting participation in the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force.

The Huntsville City Council approved the agreement at its March 26 meeting.

HPD has participated in the task force since October 2021, working alongside state and regional partners on narcotics investigations that extend beyond local jurisdiction.

Through the MOU, HPD officers assigned to the North Alabama Drug Task Force will be credentialed as task force agents, allowing them to operate under ALEA authority on designated cases across Alabama. This collaboration provides access to shared resources, investigative support and grant funding to assist with equipment, training and operational needs, while also allowing for the distribution of proceeds from applicable cases among participating agencies in accordance with task force guidelines.

The partnership will continue to support coordinated efforts to address illegal drug activity impacting the Huntsville community.
