HPD continues partnership with HIDTA to strengthen regional drug enforcement

The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) will continue its partnership with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) and the Alabama Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) approved by the Huntsville City Council.
The annual agreement allows HPD to continue participating in the federally funded HIDTA Program, which provides grant funding for investigative overtime, specialized equipment, training, travel and other operational expenses that support narcotics investigations.
As the lead agency for the North Alabama Drug Task Force (NADTF), HPD works alongside ALEA, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, the Madison Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations and other law enforcement partners to investigate and dismantle drug trafficking organizations operating across the region.
“Drug trafficking does not stop at city or county lines, and our response can’t either,” NADF Commander Lt. Joseph Kennington said. “This partnership gives investigators access to critical resources and strengthens our ability to combat organized criminal networks while helping keep Huntsville one of the safest cities in America.”
By leveraging federal funding and shared investigative resources, the partnership helps remove dangerous drugs from communities, reduce drug-related crime and enhance public safety across north Alabama.
