HPD joins regional partnership to strengthen explosive response across north Alabama

The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has joined local and state agencies in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to strengthen coordination and response to explosive-related incidents, including improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The agreement establishes a unified framework for communication, mutual aid and investigative support during high-risk incidents, helping agencies work together more effectively when rapid response is critical.
Participation also provides HPD access to specialized equipment, training and technical resources, along with federal liability protections that support interagency operations.
HPD’s Bomb Squad serves as the regional explosive response team for Alabama Homeland Security Region F, covering 10 counties in northeast Alabama. The MOU enhances the ability to quickly coordinate resources and assistance across jurisdictions when multiple incidents occur.
The partnership ultimately improves public safety by increasing information sharing, strengthening preparedness and enhancing the region’s ability to prevent and respond to explosive threats.
