Huntsville Animal Services slashes orphan pet fees for ‘Home for the Holidays’ promotion

Published on December 1, 2021

Huntsville Animal Services (HAS) wants to put furry friends in loving homes this holiday season and is slashing fees to make it happen.

As part of its “Home for the Holidays” promotion, HAS is waiving adoption fees on 25 different animals that will be featured on Facebook.com/HuntsvilleAnimalServices each day leading up to Christmas. Kicking off the promotion is Moore, a mixed breed that loves walks and other dogs.

HAS Director Dr. Karen Sheppard said regular adoption fees are always subsidized to encourage adoptions. Most adult pet fees are waived to $35 and puppies and kittens are usually $50, though some exclusions apply.

“It’s this season that we hope families will open their homes and hearts to a shelter pet,” Sheppard said. “What better way to express the giving spirit and love of the season than by giving a pet a fresh start?”

If adopting isn’t possible, Sheppard said the shelter’s sleepover program is a great way to host a pet while getting to know its positive qualities. It also gets a dog or cat out of the noisy shelter for a brief time, which can greatly improve its mental and emotional health. When foster parents provide photos and key information about the animal, it can improve its chances of being adopted.

Each adoptable pet is vaccinated, spayed/neutered, microchipped and comes with a City license and free bag of pet food. Click here to see photos, ages and descriptions of available animals.

Located at 4950 Triana Blvd. in Huntsville, the shelter is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
