Huntsville Fire & Rescue is pleased to announce it received a $13,651.50 grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, a nonprofit foundation founded in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  The foundation’s mission is to impact the life‐saving capabilities, and the lives, of local heroes and their communities.

The grant will be used to purchase a large skid mounted ventilator fan. The need for large volume ventilation was identified during an event critique following an event at the Alabama Space and Rocket Center which houses priceless artifacts.

“Huntsville protects many large buildings that are mission critical to industry in our community,” said Huntsville Fire and Rescue Chief Howard W. McFarlen Jr.  “While our trucks are all equipped with adequate ventilation equipment for most incidents, we have not had the ability to effectively remove smoke from structures with large square footages and tall ceilings which minimizes damage to property and is critical to the safety of our Firefighters.”

Mayor Tommy Battle applauded the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for its commitment to supporting community needs.

“Grants like this help us maximize our public safety dollars, so that we may fully provide our firefighters with equipment, facilities and training needed to ensure protection of life and property,” said Mayor Battle.
