The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has charged a Huntsville man in connection with the overdose death of an 11-year-old child.

On Wednesday, July 15, around 1 p.m., HPD officers responded to a report of a possible overdose at a residence in the 100 block of High Green Drive. Officers and medical personnel located the child inside the home showing signs of an overdose.

Despite life-saving efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the scene

HPD’s Major Crimes Unit responded and began its investigation. Christopher Todd Wilson, 38, of Huntsville, was at the home when officers arrived and was detained for questioning.

Investigators determined the child ingested an illegal drug belonging to Wilson, which resulted in the child’s death.

After consulting with the Madison County District Attorney’s Office, investigators charged Wilson with manslaughter. He was booked into the Madison County Jail.
