The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has arrested a juvenile in connection with a shooting that left one juvenile dead and another injured Sunday morning.
On Sunday, Sept. 6, around 10:15 a.m., officers responded to the 2400 block of Mount Vernon Road in reference to two shooting victims. When they arrived, they located two juveniles suffering from gunshot wounds and immediately provided medical assistance until Huntsville Fire & Rescue and HEMSI arrived. Investigators later determined the shooting occurred in the 2500 block of Winchester Road.
Both juveniles were transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. One of the juveniles later succumbed to his injuries. The second juvenile sustained a gunshot wound and was treated for his injuries.
HPD’s Major Crimes Unit responded to lead the investigation. Through their investigation, investigators identified a juvenile suspect. The suspect was taken into custody shortly after 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6.
Because the suspect and victims are juveniles, HPD will not release their names or other identifying information. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
