Published on November 17, 2025

The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has arrested Sara Brianne Oleson, 33, of Huntsville on charge of reckless murder following an extensive investigation.

On Aug. 5, around 3:30 p.m., HPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit responded to a crash at Bailey Cove Road and Green Mountain Road. The victim was legally crossing the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle.  The 13-year-old child did not survive his injuries

The driver, Oleson, remained on the scene. Investigators recovered evidence from the vehicle, including substances known to cause impairment. Toxicology tests were conducted as part of the comprehensive investigation, which required several months of careful review.

Following the conclusion of the investigation, the Madison County District Attorney’s office presented the case to a grand jury, which returned an indictment charging Oleson with reckless murder.

“This was an especially heartbreaking case for the family and our community,” said HPD Chief Kirk Giles. “Our Traffic Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit worked tirelessly to examine every detail, and we hope this step brings some measure of progress for the family as the justice process continues.”
