Spring into Spring: Green Team hosting Earth Month events Friday, Saturday

Huntsville’s Green Team is inviting residents to spring into spring with a pair of Earth Month events designed to help the community grow a little greener. Earth Month launches tomorrow with a plant and supplies giveaway, followed by a community cleanup on Saturday.
First up is the wildly popular Spring Plant & Cleanup Supplies Giveaway on Friday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jaycee Building at John Hunt Park, 2180 Airport Road. Residents can scoop up free tomato and cucumber plants, along with trash bags and dog waste bag rolls, at this drive‑through event – a perfect combo for sprucing up yards, parks and neighborhood spaces. Supplies are available while they last.
“Earth Month is all about taking simple steps that help keep our community clean, vibrant and beautiful,” said Green Team Manager Niki Sothers. “Events like this make it easy for families, schools and neighborhood groups to get involved.”
The momentum continues Saturday, April 11 with the District 1 Community Cleanup Day from 9-11 a.m. at the Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center, 4600 Blue Spring Road. Volunteers will focus on litter pickup in the surrounding neighborhood. Join Green Team and District 1 Council Member Michelle Watkins invite friends and neighbors of all ages to join this rewarding effort. All supplies will be provided.
Together, these events kick off Huntsville’s broader Earth Month celebration, which includes additional community cleanups, plant giveaways and free, family‑friendly activities throughout April.
