Huntsville reaffirms commitment to Space Command with $45 million investment in Redstone Arsenal

The Huntsville City Council will consider a resolution at its May 14 meeting authorizing Mayor Tommy Battle to proceed with a $45 million donation to support Redstone Arsenal’s continued growth and the future permanent headquarters of U.S. Space Command.

The investment includes approximately $15 million provided by the State of Alabama for senior leader housing built to military specifications. The remaining $30 million will support critical site improvements, utilities and infrastructure needed for construction of the new U.S. Space Command headquarters at Redstone Arsenal.

The gift commitment was included as part of the original proposal submitted by the City of Huntsville and the State of Alabama to the Department of Defense during the nationwide selection process for the permanent U.S. Space Command headquarters.

Mayor Battle said the City’s contribution underscores Huntsville’s role as a trusted partner to Redstone and the broader defense and aerospace community.

“Redstone Arsenal and Team Redstone are essential to our nation’s security and to Huntsville’s identity as a leader in defense and aerospace,” said Tommy Battle. “This investment demonstrates our continued commitment to supporting the infrastructure and resources necessary for U.S. Space Command and Redstone Arsenal to succeed and grow for decades to come.”

If approved, the resolution authorizes the City to advance the gift agreement with the U.S. Army, enabling these initiatives to move forward.
